Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) seeks an experienced Civil Engineer to lead design and coordinate assignments on major projects. You will interpret engineering principles, perform design computations and act as a technical advisor to junior staff.

Requirements include ABET-accredited degree, 7–10 years of experience, Professional Engineer license, and proficiency with discipline-specific design software and MS Office. Hybrid work with in-office Philadelphia presence is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 7–10 years' experience in a specialized discipline.
  • Professional Engineer License.
  • Proficient in discipline-specific design software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Written and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work on projects.
  • Analyze survey data, maps, drawings, and geologic data to plan projects.
  • Perform design computations and prepare construction cost estimates.
  • Develop construction documents, plans, specs, and estimates.
  • Coordinate with sub-consultants and in-house teams for timely delivery.
  • Lead and manage team members, providing coaching and feedback.

Position Summary

Responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Acts as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects
  • Perform design computations
  • Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools
  • Develop construction cost estimates
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction
  • Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates
  • Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines
  • Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals
  • Prepare proposals as required
  • Attend meetings with clients
  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality
  • Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of team

Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program
  • 7-10 years' experience in specialized discipline
  • Professional Engineer License
  • Proficient in discipline specific design software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Written and communication skills
Preferred Experience
  • Experience working with local clients at the county and state level
Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Hybrid with 3-days/week in the Philadelphia office required.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
