Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Bridge Engineer in Baltimore to lead inspection, analysis, and design tasks for transportation projects. You will deliver reports, calculations, and contract documents and work within a multidisciplinary team to meet schedule and budget.

The role emphasizes mentoring junior engineers and applying AASHTO, ACI, AISC, and AREMA standards. Maryland PE licensure is required or obtainable within two months.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited degree in Civil Engineering with focus on bridges/structures.
  • 4+ years in bridge inspection, design, structural analysis, or related transportation work.
  • PE licensure in Maryland or ability to obtain within two months.
  • Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and design software (Merlin-DASH, OpenBridge Designer, STAAD Pro, BrR).
  • Familiarity with applicable design codes (AASHTO LRFD, AASHTO Bridge Eval, ACI 318, AISC, AREMA).
  • Experience with steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed concrete design.
  • Knowledge of SHA/MDTA/MTA/VDOT design standards.
  • NHI two-week bridge inspection certification; NHI certification for nonredundant steel tension members preferred.

  • Project Documentation: Develop detailed contract drawings, technical specifications, quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and study reports.
  • Team Collaboration and Delivery: Collaborate with interdisciplinary design teams to support project delivery on schedule and within budget.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Mentor entry-level engineers and lead assigned task orders efficiently and effectively.

Job description

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, with a concentration in bridges or structures, from an ABET-accredited university
  • 4+ years of experience in bridge inspection, design, structural analysis, or related transportation infrastructure work
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Maryland, or ability to obtain licensure within two months of employment
  • Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills, with a commitment to delivering high-quality work
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and design software, such as Merlin-DASH, OpenBridge Designer, STAAD Pro, and AASHTOWare BrR
  • Working knowledge of applicable design codes, including AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation, ACI 318 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete, AISC Steel Construction Manual, and AREMA – Manual for Railway Engineering
