Job summary

The State of Missouri invites applications for a Bridge Maintenance Worker in Winona, MO. This role performs routine and emergency repairs on bridges in the state highway system under general supervision and may be hired at entry, intermediate, or senior levels within a CAREER-LADDER track.

Responsibilities include painting and repairing concrete and steel bridges, maintaining surfaces, setting up traffic control, and transporting materials to job sites.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and emergency repairs to bridges, including concrete bridge repairs and structural steel repairs, paints and seals bridge caps, and performs deck repair and replacement.
• Paints structural steel bridges, including scaffolding, cleaning and preparing surfaces, and applying paint with spray equipment.
• Assists in preventative maintenance on bridges in the state highway system.
• Sets up traffic control devices, including signs, cones, and flags; flags traffic for work zones.
• Operates vehicles and equipment to transport materials and crew to job sites; performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.

Job description

This position is eligible for a temporary emergency operations adjustment of $3 to $6 per hour, depending on the area of operation, when handling winter/emergency operations activities. Note for internal applicants: Successful candidates already at rates above the posted salary will be evaluated on an individual basis to determine final salary outcome.

• Assists in preventative maintenance functions on bridges in the state highway system.
• Sets up traffic control devices such as signs, cones, and flags; flags traffic for work zones.
• Operates vehicles and equipment to transport materials and crew to job sites; cleans and performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED/HiSET
• Valid driver’s license
• A passing grade on the written portion of the commercial driver’s license (CDL) exam is required prior to hire date. Must pass the driving portion of the CDL exam with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions (Class B), and interstate status (either Excepted Interstate [EI] or NonExcepted Interstate [NI]) within 60 days of hire.
• Employee will be required to pass a cardiopulmonary function test yearly, attend training on the use of respirators, and pass a respirator fit test every six months.
• Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.
