Qualifications

• 15+ years of bridge and structural construction inspection experience.
• 10+ years on heavy civil transportation projects including bridges, highways, rail, or grade separations.
• Thorough knowledge of FHWA/NBIS bridge inspection requirements and Caltrans standards.
• Experience preparing bridge inspection reports, documenting deficiencies, and coordinating corrective actions.

Responsibilities

• Perform and oversee inspection of bridges, retaining walls, reinforced concrete structures, steel structures, and other heavy civil infrastructure
• Conduct inspections in accordance with FHWA/NBIS requirements using under-bridge equipment
• Verify construction compliance with plans, specs, and agency standards
• Document findings and prepare inspection reports with corrective recommendations
• Review contractor work for quality and compliance with plans
• Coordinate with contractors, designers, owners, and agencies to resolve field issues
• Maintain daily inspection reports and project records
• Identify safety, quality concerns and recommend corrective actions
• Mentor junior inspectors and field staff

The ideal candidate has extensive experience performing structural inspections, ensuring construction quality, and coordinating with project teams throughout all phases of construction.

Responsibilities

• Perform and oversee inspection of bridges, retaining walls, reinforced concrete structures, steel structures, and other heavy civil infrastructure
• Conduct initial, routine, in-depth, and fracture-critical bridge inspections in accordance with FHWA/NBIS requirements using under-bridge inspection equipment and other access methods
• Verify construction complies with project plans, specifications, agency standards, and applicable codes
• Document inspection findings, identify deficiencies, and prepare detailed inspection reports with recommendations for corrective action
• Review contractor work for quality, workmanship, and compliance with approved plans and specifications
• Coordinate with contractors, designers, owners, and agency representatives to resolve field issues
• Maintain daily inspection reports, field documentation, and project records
• Identify construction, safety, and quality concerns and recommend appropriate corrective actions
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior inspectors and field staff

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
• 15+ years of bridge and structural construction inspection experience
• 10+ years on heavy civil transportation projects including bridges, highways, rail, or grade separations
• Thorough knowledge of FHWA/NBIS bridge inspection requirements and applicable state DOT standards (Caltrans experience preferred)
• Experience preparing bridge inspection reports, documenting deficiencies, and coordinating corrective actions
• Strong understanding of reinforced concrete, structural steel, foundations, and heavy civil construction practices
• Ability to work at heights, over water, and in confined spaces using specialized bridge inspection access equipment, as required

Preferred Qualifications

• FHWA-NHI 130055 - Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges
• Fracture-Critical Bridge Inspection training
• Tunnel inspection experience or certification
• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician, AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), SPRAT, MEWP, or similar inspection certifications
• Experience with nondestructive testing (NDT/NDE), scour evaluations, and bridge condition assessments
• Familiarity with electronic inspection reporting systems and agency documentation requirements
