Job summary

Collins Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Bridge Inspection Team Leader to drive the growth of our Michigan team. The role combines office and field duties, leading inspections, project management and client coordination across state projects.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in bridge and structural inspections, and be proficient with the MI Bridge program; travel statewide/local is required, with some nights/weekends possible.

Qualifications

• Experience in bridge and structural inspections and project management.
• Ability to manage projects, consult with clients and government agencies.
• Willingness to travel statewide and locally; 25% in office.

Responsibilities

• Supervise above-water and underwater bridge and ancillary structure evaluation and hands on inspection.
• Be familiar and competent with the use of MI Bridge program for MDOT.
• Review, analyze, and provide recommendations on field and/or design issues or adaptations.
• Prepare and monitor project budgets and assists in proposal preparation.
• Accountable for project schedules and timely completion of projects.
• Responsible for standard and intermediate challenging engineering projects in field or office in accordance with plans and specifications.
• Perform simple and complex engineering computations and estimates related to inspection projects and rehabilitation plans.
• Prepare complete engineering plans or reports meeting MDOT design guidelines.
• Direct and supervise the work of entry-level engineers, technicians, drafters, and administrative staff.
• Coach field staff on the purpose and processes of inspections and inspection techniques.
• Make independent decisions within a general framework.
• Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
• Demonstrated bridge design experience a plus.
• Field work required, which could include nights and weekends.
• Other duties may be assigned.
• Relocation is available.
