Bridge Inspection Team Leader

Location: Houston, Texas. Remote or hybrid arrangement negotiable.

Garver’s Transportation Design Center, an integrated team focused on bridge projects, inspections, and load ratings, seeks a Bridge Inspection Team Leader for our Houston office. This position works with in‑house engineers, designers, and technicians to provide technical expertise for delivering inspections and reports.

The primary responsibilities include SNBI bridge inspection tasks—field inspections and office work—across Texas and occasionally in other states. The role also offers the opportunity to collaborate on load rating and rehabilitation projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections of bridges and culverts to SNBI and state‑specific standards as Inspection Team Leader.
• Coordinate site visits for inspections.
• Assist with underwater inspections.
• Follow company standard procedures for documenting inspections.
• Upload inspection files daily to a specialized interface.
• Enter bridge inspection data.
• Conduct field work which may include carrying ladders and gear, working at heights, and working in hot or cold weather.
• Perform NSTM inspections.

Experience Requirements

• National Highway Institute (NHI) Course No. 130055 (Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges).
• Minimum 5–10 years of related experience.
• Strong communication skills.
• Strong working knowledge of MS Office.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• National Highway Institute (NHI) Course No. 130078 (Fracture Critical Techniques for Steel Bridges).
• National Highway Institute (NHI) Course No. 130091 (Underwater Bridge Inspection).
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET program.
• Experience with InspectX and/or other asset‑management software.
• Experience with MicroStation.
• Experience with AASHTOWare Bridge Rating software.
• Current TxDOT precertification in the appropriate category or ability to obtain it quickly.
