Job summary

Benesch is seeking a Bridge Inspection Team Leader based in Boston, MA who will conduct safety inspections of bridges and tunnels, coordinate inspection schedules, and lead team members. Bridge Inspection Team Leader

We have an exciting career opportunity for a Bridge Inspection Team Leader with our Structural Team. The ideal candidate has experience with directing the work of team members and coordination with clients.

Location

This position is based out of our Boston, MA office and follows a remote work schedule. Applicants must reside in Massachusetts.

The Impact You Will Have
  • Conduct safety inspections of bridges and tunnels and prepare written reports of the conditions of the structures.
  • Perform or lead in‑depth inspections using non‑destructive testing methods, mechanized access equipment and/or climbing gear.
  • Perform post‑incident bridge inspections to determine severity of damage and recommend appropriate actions with regard to bridge closures and detours.
  • Coordinate with bridge owners and other agencies on inspection schedules, traffic control, railroad access, navigational channels, etc.
  • Perform lead worker responsibilities, providing general instruction, assigning and reviewing work, coaching and training, guidance, and input to the direct supervisor on staffing decisions and performance management.
  • Opportunity to work on bridge load ratings and designs.
What You Will Need / Required Experience
  • Currently qualify for NBIS as a bridge or tunnel inspection team leader.
  • Ability and experience to lead the work of others, communicate and maintain proper working relationships.
  • Possess knowledge of bridge inspection methods and procedures.
  • Experience with reporting procedures.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate bridge access.
  • Must possess physical capability to navigate steep embankments, operate in confined spaces, perform inspections while climbing structures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and working knowledge of AutoCAD.
Preferred Experience
  • P.E. preferred.
  • Completed comprehensive training course based on the FHWA Bridge Inspector's Reference Manual (BIRM) (NHI Course 130055) and FHWA Tunnel Safety Inspection (NHI Course 130110) and be current with refresher requirements.
  • Approved as a MassDOT/MBTA Inspection Team Leader.
  • Additional NHI coursework (fracture critical, tunnel inspection, ancillary structures, etc.).
  • Valid Driver's License.
Compensation

Expected compensation range: $100,000 – $135,000 USD. The final agreed‑upon compensation is based on numerous factors, including individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and geographic location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary, overtime, and bonuses.
