Job summary

Pennoni is seeking a Project Bridge Engineer to lead topside inspection teams and oversee bridge inspection contracts in the Lehigh Valley and Wyoming Valley offices. You will perform NBIS inspections across PA/NJ, support emergency response, and ensure public safety through detailed bridge assessments.

The role requires PE licensure in PA, 8+ years NBIS experience, and the ability to manage client-facing task orders. Travel and field work are expected as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in structural or civil engineering required.
• 8+ years NBIS bridge inspection experience with at least 2+ years PennDOT experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Pennsylvania.
• Valid state driver's license and ability to perform field work in various conditions.

Responsibilities

• Lead NBIS bridge inspections in PA/NJ and surrounding states.
• Manage bridge inspection task orders and interface with client/project managers.
• Prepare inspection reports with sketches and findings for clients.
• Contribute to design development of transportation and bridge projects during slow inspection periods.
• Ensure compliance with NBIS and OSHA regulations and maintain high quality documentation.

Job description

Pennoni is currently initiating a search for a Project Bridge Engineer to lead topside inspection teams and bridge inspection contracts in our Lehigh Valley (and Wyoming Valley) office Use relevant work experience to perform NBIS bridge inspections in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and surrounding states. Experience with providing emergency response services associated with extreme weather events and or damage inspections. Help ensure the safety of the traveling public through detailed assessments of bridge components Manage bridge inspection task orders and interface with client / owner project manager. Prepare inspection reports, including CADD sketches and soundings, to clearly convey findings to client. Ability to participate in the design development of transportation improvement and bridge projects during slower inspection periods. Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for equipment maintenance, diving safety, and inspection procedures. Plans, schedules, and performs bridge inspections in accordance with the requirements of specific bridge owners, but in all cases, in compliance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and OSHA Regulations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
• Professional Engineering License (PE) in Pennsylvania
• Currently qualify as an NBIS and PennDOT Bridge Inspection Team Leader.
• 8+ years of NBIS bridge inspection experience with at least 2+ years of PennDOT experience.
• Valid state driver's license.
• Physically capable of performing field work; including working in inclement weather, climbing slopes and ladders, carrying gear (up to 75 lbs.), and using hand and power tools, etc.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others.
• Capable of self-leadership with strong attention to detail, ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instructions, and comply with company policies.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet client objectives.
• Occasional travel, including the potential for overnight stays, may be required depending on project-specific requirements and project location.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc...)

Preferred Qualifications

• PE Registration in additional states beyond Pennsylvania
• Additional NHI certifications (NSTM/FCM, Ancillary, Tunnels, etc...)
• Prior leadership experience
• Proficient in AutoCAD or MicroStation
• Load rating and structural analysis experience
• NDT/NDE certification is a plus
