Bridge Inspection Team Lead

Houston, Texas

Garver's Transportation Design Center, an integrated team specializing in bridge projects, inspections, and load ratings, is seeking a Bridge Inspection Team Lead for our Houston, TX office. A remote or hybrid work arrangement is negotiable. This role involves collaborating with in-house engineers, designers, and technicians to provide technical expertise for NBIS inspections and reports.

This Bridge Inspection Team Lead will primarily perform NBIS bridge inspections, including fieldwork and related office duties. Travel across Texas and occasionally other states will be required. Opportunities may also exist for involvement in load rating and bridge rehabilitation projects.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Performing routine bridge and culvert inspections to NBIS and state standards as Inspection Team Lead
  • Coordinating site visits for inspections
  • Assisting with underwater and fracture-critical bridge inspections
  • Documenting inspections following company procedures
  • Uploading inspection files daily to specialized interfaces
  • Data entry for bridge inspections
  • Fieldwork, including working at heights and in various weather conditions
  • Developing Bridge Inspection Safety Plans

As experience with Garver's inspection practices grows, there may be opportunities for project and staff management roles.

Experience Requirements
  • Completion of NHI Course No. 130055 (Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges)
  • 5-10 years of related experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • NHI Course No. 130078 (Fracture Critical Techniques for Steel Bridges)
  • NHI Course No. 130091 (Underwater Bridge Inspection)
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Experience with InspectX or similar Asset Management software
  • Experience with MicroStation
  • Experience with AASHTOWare Bridge Rating software
  • Current TxDOT Precertification or ability to obtain it quickly
