Your Opportunity + Impact

The Bridge Inspection Team Lead will be responsible for performing bridge safety inspections and other structure-related inspections in accordance with NBIS and PennDOT Pub 238. This position will work closely with the Project Manager to ensure all inspections, budgets, and quality of work are being met. This role will supervise Team Assistants performing inspections, preparing reports, and ensuring completion of projects.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Inspect structures in accordance with NBIS and Pub 238.
  2. Schedule and coordinate inspection crews to complete inspections, reports, and reviews.
  3. Identify deficiencies, evaluate their conditions, and properly code the structure in i-forms.
  4. Recommend repairs for identified deficiencies.
  5. Record and maintain records of structure conditions using i-forms and BMS2.
  6. Meet with clients (e.g., Township Supervisors, Road Masters) to advise on structure conditions.
  7. Use hand tools to remove defective materials for evaluating conditions.
  8. Access structures using ladders, hydraulic lifts, and under-bridge cranes.
  9. Utilize measuring devices and non-destructive testing methods.
  10. Summarize field data and perform load rating analyses.
  11. Prepare Bridge Load Posting Summaries.
  12. Oversee and direct subcontractors for traffic control and rigging.
  13. Guide Bridge Inspection Team Assistants in evaluating structure conditions accurately.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in bridge inspection as an Assistant or Team Leader.
  • CBSI certification required; PE license preferred.

Additional Requirements

Must be able to travel across the state as needed to complete inspections. Occasional weekly overnight stays may be required.

Qualifications

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, or Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Good organization and time management skills.
  • Ability and willingness to take direction from others.
  • Willingness to learn.
