Job description

Join our team as a Bridge Inspection Engineer, Entry Level at Burgess & Niple.

This is a full-time position available in Portland, OR, Boise, ID, Flagstaff, AZ, or Tempe, AZ.

Responsibilities
  1. Assist with in-service bridge inspection and assessment projects alongside Professional Engineers, Engineers-In-Training, and Bridge Inspectors nationwide.
  2. Utilize rope-access, mechanical-access, and other methods to inspect bridges of various sizes and types across the U.S., primarily in the Pacific Northwest.
  3. Document and report bridge conditions following National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and upcoming SNBI guidelines.
  4. Analyze load ratings and prepare reports for bridge and culvert assessments in collaboration with DOTs, counties, and municipalities.
  5. Create drawings using MicroStation or AutoCAD.
  6. Perform design calculations and load ratings for existing bridges on a limited basis.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or expected graduation by Spring 2025.
  • Prior bridge inspection experience is a plus.
  • Engineering internships or construction experience are advantageous.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT/EI) registration or ability to obtain before start date.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, or MicroStation; experience with AASHTOWare BrM is a plus.
  • Willingness to attend NHI/FHWA Bridge Inspection, SPRAT, and OSHA Confined Space Trainings.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Physical ability to lift 30 lbs, work at heights over 100 feet, and endure all weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel up to 100 days per year within the Pacific Northwest and nationwide.
