Job summary

KPFF Seattle’s Civil/Structural Team seeks a seasoned structural engineer to manage projects, lead design discussions, and deliver plans, specifications, and reports. You will supervise draftspersons, ensure QA/QC of outputs, and conduct field inspections on bridge and heavy-civil projects, contributing to a collaborative, client-focused practice.

Job Description

KPFF Seattle’s Civil/ Structural Team is composed primarily of structural engineers who design and evaluate infrastructure that connects communities. Our work spans a wide range of bridge and heavy-civil projects, including highway and pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, culverts that support fish passage, ferry terminals, piers, wharves, and structural inspections. We take pride in our collaborative approach to consulting, partnering with clients across the industry, from small local agencies, to state transportation departments, to architects and contractors. Our team contributes to projects that range from feasibility studies, to new construction, to rehabilitation, to retrofits, always with a focus on technical excellence, environmental stewardship, and community impact.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Perform project management tasks, such as monitoring budgets and schedules, interacting with clients, and leading junior engineers.
• Lead technical and project discussions with the design team.
• Prepare plans, specifications, cost estimates, and reports.
• Take responsibility for the quality control/assurance of project deliverables.
• Perform structural design, analysis, and prepare design sketches. Instruct draftspersons on design drawings.
• Perform inspection/field work.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• BSCE with emphasis in Structural Engineering
• Professional Engineer (PE) License
• 7+ years of experience

Preferred Qualifications

• MSCE or MSE with emphasis in Structural Engineering
• Structural Engineer (SE) License
• Experience in the design and construction of reinforced concrete and structural steel structures.
• Proficiency with the following, or similar, software: CSI Software Suite (SAP, CSI Bridge), PG Super
• Experience monitoring budgets and schedules, interacting with clients, and leading junior engineers.
• Strong communicator and collaborator
• Self-motivated
• Eager to develop and grow as a structural engineer
• Ability to work with, mentor, and lead junior engineers
• Passionate about providing exceptional client services
• Strong technical and organizational abilities

Additional Information

Physical Demands

• Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer table.
• Occasionally may be required to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
• Occasionally visiting project locations and performing field inspections which may involve walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain.
• Traveling to project sites or client meetings, which may involve driving or flying.

Compensation

The base salary for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected pay for a qualified candidate is $115,000 - $200,000. Additionally, we offer performance-based bonuses to recognize and reward outstanding contributions in each Reporting Center.
