Job summary

AECOM Technical Services, Inc. in Providence, RI, is seeking a Bridge Engineer. Lead structural engineering on projects, review designs, and provide input on transportation bridges for vehicle and rail applications. Perform load ratings and design using concrete, steel, and timber materials.

The role requires a civil engineering degree and 3 years of bridge-related experience, with PE licensing within six months. Telecommuting 2-4 days/week is permitted.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field and 3 years of experience.
• Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
• Experience with structural analysis and design per local and national standards.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the lead structural engineer on projects, reviewing designs and plans.
• Provide specialized input on transportation projects, especially bridges for vehicle and rail.
• Conduct load rating analyses for highway and rail bridges ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
• Design new bridges using prestressed concrete, reinforced concrete, structural steel, and timber.
• Review design calculations for bearings, expansion joints, baseplates, and gravity walls; prepare technical reports.
• Evaluate impacts of operational changes on bridges and retaining walls.
• Perform inspection, assessment, and rehabilitation design of existing bridges.
• Use computer software for analysis and design of complex structures.
• Prepare technical specs and design documents; provide engineering support during construction.
• Telecommuting permitted 2-4 days per week.
• Engineer license or ability to obtain license within six months.

Job Description

AECOM Technical Services, Inc. is seeking a Bridge Engineer in Providence, RI.

• Serve as the lead structural engineer on projects including reviewing designs and plans
• Provide specialized technical input on transportation related projects, particularly vehicle and rail bridges
• Conduct load rating analyses for highway and rail bridges ensuring all structures meet regulatory and safety requirements
• Provide conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design of new bridges utilizing pre-stressed concrete, reinforced concrete, structural steel, and timber components
• Review and check design calculations for bearings, expansion joints, baseplates, and gravity walls, and prepare technical reports documenting findings and recommendations
• Evaluate the impact of increased train speeds, utility modifications, and other operational changes on the integrity of existing bridges and retaining walls
• Perform inspection, assessment, and rehabilitation design of existing bridges
• Utilize computer software for the analysis and design of complex structures
• Prepare technical specifications and design documents, report writing, technical engineering support, and limited inspection during construction
• Telecommuting permitted 2-4 days per week
• Professional Engineer License or ability to obtain Professional Engineer License within six months of hire

Qualifications

Candidates must have aBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field of study and3 years of experience as a Bridge Engineer, Structural Engineer, Civil Engineer, or in a related occupation.

Position requires experience in the following:

• Professional Engineer License or ability to obtain Professional Engineer License within six months of hire
• Structural analysis and design according to local and national standards
• Bridge load rating using regional policies and guidelines
• Technical report writing and peer review
• Directing staff as a structural lead for bridge design projects
