We are a multi-disciplinary engineering firm that provides planning, design, and construction services for transportation infrastructure. We are looking for a Bridge Engineer with experience designing bridges for PennDOT and local agencies to join our Pittsburgh, PA team.
Responsibilities
- Develop structural designs for new and replacement bridge projects.
- Create rehabilitation plans and details for bridge projects.
- Develop foundation designs for bridges and culverts (piles, spread footers, etc.).
- Prepare and review civil/structural calculations, drawings, construction specifications, and engineering construction cost estimates, and coordinate with interdisciplinary design teams.
- Perform bridge safety inspections.
- Meet with clients as required.
Qualifications
- BS in Civil Engineering; MS in Structural Engineering with an Advanced Certificate in Bridge Engineering is a plus.
- 4 to 10 years of experience designing structural bridge-related projects.
- PE and/or willingness to obtain PE (EIT is required).
- Current NHI/PennDOT Certified Bridge Inspector (will be required to complete field work).
- Knowledge of load rating analysis, design, and associated software.
- Proficiency in preparing bridge inspection reports.
- Experience designing single-span bridges, multi-span bridges, and culverts.
- Expertise with MicroStation Connect, including Open Roads Designer.
- Proficiency with PennDOT LRFD software suite.
- Understanding of PennDOT Standards, Pay Items, Specifications, and ability to complete construction cost estimates.
- Successful completion of FHWA/NHI 130078 – NSTM Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges Course.
Minimum Requirements
- Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration.
- Possess a personal vehicle for use on or around a job site.
- Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language.
- Basic computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams.
- Able to traverse a construction job site with uneven ground and varying elevations up to 19".
- Able to climb and descend a ladder to a platform varying from 6' to 20'.
- Able to wear and operate personal fall arresting apparatus, and work at a height of 6' or higher.
- Able to wear required PPE including hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and safety glasses/goggles.
