Job description

Benesch is a growing, multi-disciplined planning, engineering, and professional services firm. We enhance infrastructure and communities across the country—creating spaces and providing connections that make a difference.

Bridge Engineer

Benesch is hiring a Bridge Engineer to join our Colorado Division. In this role you will work on vehicular bridges, pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, and other transportation‑related structures. All project phases—from planning and design through construction and in‑service—are represented, giving you a full life‑cycle view of each project. The ideal candidate will have a strong history of completing bridge projects and the ability to mentor junior staff.

Location

This position offers flexibility across the front range of Colorado, including but not limited to Greeley, Fort Collins, Johnstown, and the Denver metro area.

Key projects
  • I‑25 Exit 11: Interchange improvements in Trinidad, Colorado, involving modernized junctions with twin roundabouts, a new bridge, and enhanced access to Fishers Peak and Trinidad Lake State Parks. The older bridge was replaced, ramps widened, and dual roundabouts installed to improve capacity and safety.
  • 8th Street Corridor: Project in Colorado Springs to widen the bridge over Fountain Creek. Key improvements include adding a new northbound lane, a dedicated right‑turn lane, and a multi‑use path to enhance traffic capacity and pedestrian connectivity near US Highway 24.
  • Peoria Over Sand Creek: Comprehensive design services for the City of Aurora’s Peoria Street bridge replacement over Sand Creek. The project widens Peoria Street to six lanes and replaces a flood‑prone, 60‑year‑old bridge. Work includes structural and hydraulic design, ADA‑compliant multimodal facilities, drainage, geotechnical investigation, utility coordination, environmental documentation, and public outreach.
The Impact You Will Have
  • Serve as lead engineer on a variety of bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects.
  • Mentor junior staff and support the growth and development of the structural team.
  • Prepare and review structural and geometrical calculations for bridge design projects.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned design calculation files and plans, ensuring adequate independent QC reviews.
  • Manage the compilation and coordination of plans, specifications, cost estimates, and pay items per DOT standards.
  • Coordinate tasks with the Project Manager.
  • Lead structural designers on bridge design and rehabilitation projects.
What You Will Need
  • BS in Civil Engineering and/or Structural Engineering or related discipline (MS is a plus).
  • PE license in Colorado or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
  • 5 to 10+ years of bridge design experience.
  • Experience working with CDOT and/or municipalities.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with a track record for adhering to design budgets and schedules.
  • Proven experience performing complex analysis and design.
  • Ability to assemble a complete design package and construction documents for assigned elements or projects.
  • Proven experience with structural design and analysis software; Leap Bridge, LUSUS, Midas, and OpenBridge a plus.
  • Excellent communication and client‑relation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Compensation range is displayed in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Base salary, overtime, and bonuses will be determined by qualifications, experience, and location.

Benefits:
