Job summary

Benesch is seeking a Structural-Bridge Technical Manager in a hybrid role based in Cary, NC. The position blends self-performance with directing project teams in planning and designing transportation structures, with opportunities to serve as a technical advisor and SME within the NC Structural group.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record managing structural-bridge projects, mentoring staff, and delivering high-quality engineering documents while guiding design decisions and code

Qualifications

  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering (Structural) required.
  • PE License in NC required.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in structural engineering with a transportation focus.
  • Advanced knowledge of software applicable to the discipline; proficiency in most programs used in this role.
  • Experience with MicroStation is required; 3D bridge modeling is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and direct the advancement of the technical skills of staff while executing projects.
  • Manage technical elements of a project, including analyses scope and design approaches.
  • Perform, review, and manage technical analysis and design; ensure completeness of design details.
  • Communicate technical progress and issues to Project Manager promptly and continuously.
  • Adhere to internal procedures for quality control, documentation, and project tracking.
  • Contribute as a technical specialist or advisor on other project work.
  • Provide input into the growth of the practice.
  • Work toward becoming a leading SME on targeted elements within the discipline.

Structural-Bridge Technical Manager

We have a career opportunity for a Structural-Bridge Engineer seeking to grow their career as a Technical Manager. As a Structural-Bridge Technical Manager, you will both self-perform and direct project teams in the planning and design of transportation structures projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to be viewed as a subject matter expert and provide technical advice to staff to ensure the successful execution of projects and help drive the growth of the NC Structural group.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully managing various structural-bridge projects, ensuring the development of high-quality engineering documents. Previous experience mentoring and directing staff in technical skills is highly desired.

Location

This position will have a hybrid work schedule and, when in the office, will work from our Cary office a minimum of 3 times a week.

The Impact You Will Have
  • Mentor and direct the advancement of the technical skills of staff while executing projects
  • Manage technical elements of a project, including assessing what analyses need to be completed and what is the most practical approach (i.e. software, design assumptions, etc.) for that analysis
  • Perform, review, and manage technical analysis and design. Take responsibility for the completeness of design details
  • Communicate technical progress and issues to Project Manager promptly and continuously
  • Adhere to all internal procedures for quality control, documentation, and project tracking
  • Contribute to other project work as a technical specialist or advisor
  • Provide input into the growth of the practice
  • Work toward being a leading subject matter expert on targeted elements within the discipline
What We Are Looking For
  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering (Structural) required
  • PE License in NC required
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in structural engineering with a transportation focus
  • Advanced knowledge of software appropriate for discipline, showing proficiency in most programs specific to this role/discipline
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable codes and standards that govern discipline
  • Experience in MicroStation is required; experience in 3D bridge modeling is highly desirable
  • Experience with Construction Engineering services is highly desirable
