Job summary

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking an experienced Assistant Chief Engineer – Bridge to provide technical leadership for the Bridge Department in Wall Township, NJ. This role focuses on complex bridge design, rehabilitation, and transportation projects across New Jersey and the region, mentoring engineers and shaping the department's growth.

The candidate will oversee design, QA/QC, modeling, and load rating analyses, collaborating with project managers and multidisciplinary teams

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
• PE license required or ability to obtain through reciprocity
• 15+ years of progressive bridge design and structural engineering experience
• Experience with complex bridge and transportation projects and rehabilitation experience a plus
• Strong knowledge of AASHTO LRFD and NJDOT procedures
• Proficiency in bridge analysis, rehabilitation, replacement, and evaluations
• Experience with design software such as LEAP, LARSA, MIDAS, CSIBridge, STAAD
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
• Excellent leadership, mentoring, and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills
• Business development, proposal preparation, and client engagement experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for bridge design, rehabilitation, replacement, and transportation projects
• Serve as senior technical resource for bridge teams and project delivery strategies
• Lead QA/QC reviews of plans, calculations, and reports
• Oversee structural analysis per AASHTO LRFD and NJDOT standards
• Direct bridge modeling, load ratings, and rehabilitation design efforts
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
• Support pursuits through technical strategies and client presentations
• Maintain relationships with NJDOT, counties, municipalities
• Mentor engineers and develop department standards
• Participate in strategic growth of the Bridge Department
• Conduct site visits and field assessments as needed
