Job summary

Poweshiek County's Secondary Road Department is hiring a Bridge Crew Laborer. Primary duties include maintaining and repairing bridges, culverts, and operating heavy equipment for bridge projects. A valid CDL Class A with air brake endorsement is required or must be obtained within 90 days. High school diploma or GED and related experience are expected; drug screening and physical may be required.

Qualifications

• Must possess and maintain a valid Class A CDL with air brake endorsement, or obtain within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair bridges, large pipe culverts and box culverts within the County.
• Operate heavy and specialized equipment used in bridge repair, replacement and construction.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Job description

The Poweshiek County Secondary Road Department is accepting applications for the job of Bridge Crew Laborer. The duties will include: Maintaining and repairing bridges, large pipe culverts and box culverts within the County, operating heavy and specialized equipment used in the repair, replacement and construction of bridges, and performing related duties as assigned. Starting wage will be $30.59 per hour. After a successful six (6) month trial period the hourly rate will increase to $31.09 per union contract.

Prospective employees must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with an air brake endorsement or obtain within ninety (90) days of employment. Other endorsements may also be required.

After accepting an offer of employment, applicants may be required to have a physical examination verifying the physical ability to perform the duties described. In conjunction with Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations (parts 391 & 40), this job requires a pre-employment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employer's drug testing program. Graduation from high school or GED and experience in bridge construction and repair work, road construction or maintenance work or the operation of certain types of equipment are required.
