Job summary

The State of Illinois is hiring an Associate Cost Evaluation Technician (Engineering Technician II) in Springfield. This role coordinates contracts before bids, helps develop cost estimates for bridge projects, and evaluates contractor bids against official state estimates.

The position supports the Office of Highways and Intermodal Project Implementation with a focus on annual bridge cost reports and data accuracy, with a hybrid in-office schedule.

Qualifications

• Two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a related technical/science curriculum PLUS twelve months of engineering experience OR four years of engineering experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Good organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain cooperative relationships.

Responsibilities

• Receives, organizes, and distributes bridge contract plans prior to advertisement for bids.
• Assists in the development of timely and accurate official state estimates to be utilized for the award ability of contractors’ bids.
• Develops cost and time estimates prior to advertisement for contractor bids.
• Reviews contract bids and evaluates discrepancies between contractor bids and department estimates.
• Assists in the development of annual bridge cost reports for the department.
• Ensures complete and accurate reports and statistical tabulations of pay item costs as scheduled or requested.
