Job summary

State of Alaska invites applications for a Bridge Helper position under the Alaska Railroad Bridge crew. You will assist Bridge Workers, Welders, and Operators in repair, maintenance, and construction of bridges, culverts, docks, and related structures, under supervision.

Requires six months of heavy manual labor, ability to lift up to 100 pounds, and a valid driver's license; must read and follow instructions in English. Travel across the Railbelt; outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED (significant related work may substitute).
  • Six (6) months of heavy manual labor experience required.
  • Ability to work safely with heavy tools and equipment.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions in English.
  • Ability to exert very heavy physical effort and lift up to 100 pounds, and operate a vehicle.
  • Valid driver's license with three-year clean record.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Bridge Workers, Welders, and Operators in repair, maintenance, and construction of bridges, culverts, docks, tunnels, ramps, and walls under supervision.
  • Support inspection activities and participate in safety training.
  • Follow Alaska Railroad Safety Rules and Regulations; perform related duties as assigned.
