What We're Looking For:
Michael Baker is actively seeking a Lead Bridge & Tunnel Engineer to join our Waltham office. This opportunity includes safety inspections of bridges and tunnels, documentation, manual development, load rating, and rehabilitation design. With a flexible schedule that combines on-site and remote work, this position offers the chance to mentor junior engineers and contribute to top infrastructure projects.
What You'll Do
- Lead and Innovate: Conduct safety inspections for bridges and tunnels, ensuring compliance with Federal Highway Administration standards.
- Collaborate and Coordinate: Work with state and local agencies, vendors, and team members to schedule inspections, manage traffic closures, and maintain documentation.
- Deliver Excellence: Produce and review inspection reports for timely FHWA compliance.
- Design and Develop: Perform load ratings, manual development, and rehabilitation design.
- Complete and Implement: Support project scope, budgets, timelines, and quality standards, and prepare client submissions.
- Technical Expertise: Read and interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents accurately.
- Hands-On Work: Operate inspection equipment and use hand tools, ladders, etc.
- Independent and Mentored Work: Take ownership of assignments and receive mentorship.
- Dedication to Excellence: Maintain quality, safety, and efficiency in all tasks.
- Broad Impact: Apply engineering techniques across diverse assignments.
What You Need To Succeed
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering focused on bridges/structures from an ABET-accredited institution, or equivalent experience.
- 5-8+ years of relevant inspection experience.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- Proficiency with MassDOT systems, inspection handbooks, and knowledge of Non-Destructive testing methods.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a DOT Medical Certificate.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and BlueBeam.
Preferred Qualifications
- Nationally certified bridge and tunnel inspection team leader.
- Experience in inspection, load rating, or design of bridges/tunnels.
- Proficiency with structural analysis software like AASHTOware BrR, STAAD Pro, CSI Bridge, MathCAD, etc.
- Ability to manage structural tasks in project development, including plans and reports.
- Experience developing structural details and construction plans.
Compensation
The approximate range is $120,000-$160,000, dependent on education, experience, and location.
