Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Brewing degree not required, but considered.
  • Experience in cellaring, brewing production, or food production valued.
  • Experience with tools, sanitation, and cleaning systems valued.
  • For more experienced candidates: strong technical understanding of the brewing process.
  • Specific experience requirements for each level discussed if you move forward to interview.

  • Reports to Brewing Supervisor.
  • Build a foundation in Food Safety and GMPs.
  • Learn and perform brewery sanitation, including cleaning floors, drains, and tank faces; sanitizing brewing parts; prepping and titrating chemical solutions for parts washing; and parts cleaning, handling, inspection, and staging.
  • Participate in receiving, storing, and handling raw materials, including hops, grain, adjuncts, and processing aids.
  • Participate in wort production: milling, weighing, mashing, boiling, transfer, inoculation, aeration, and recording.

Recruiting for all levels of brewing experience. Title and compensation will be subject to our internal leveling assessment. If moved forward to an interview, required experience per level will be discussed.

Starting Pay Rates:

Brewer Apprentice: $23/hour

Assistant Brewer: $25/hour
Production Brewer: $27.50/hour

Job Responsibilities:

Responsibilities span the full brewing process. Scope and independence increase with level. Specific expectations for the level you're hired into will be discussed during the interview process.

  • Reports to Brewing Supervisor
  • Build a strong foundation in Food Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Learn and perform brewery sanitation, including cleaning floors, drains, and tank faces; sanitizing brewing parts; prepping and titrating chemical solutions for parts washing; and parts cleaning, handling, inspection, and staging
  • Participate in receiving, storing, and handling raw materials, including hops, grain, adjuncts, and processing aids
  • Participate in all aspects of wort production, including milling, weighing, mashing, boiling, transfer, inoculation, aeration, and monitoring/recording in written and digital formats
  • Participate in cellar activity, including CIP's and SIP's, yeast handling (sample collection, harvest, and pitching), filtration (including centrifuge filtration media changes), transfers, and tank additions
  • Support quality assurance through DO, CO2, and O2 measurements, CIP verification, pH and gravity readings, and in-process/finished-product sensory verification
  • Professional and meticulous use of all chemicals in the brewery
  • Participate in flash pasteurization and product blending
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment; participate in cross-departmental floor walks and abide by safety and GMP practices to keep the facility sanitary and audit-ready
  • May assume responsibilities of an adjacent brewer level as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality of Athletic's brewing process; process is not to be discussed or repeated outside approved, need-to-know contexts

  • For more experienced candidates: strong technical understanding of the brewing process and sanitation; experience with brewery maintenance and upkeep; troubleshooting and root cause analysis; operating manual and automated brewing equipment, including centrifuge filtration systems; and documentation experience (manual and electronic) are valued
