Position Objective/Description:

Performs a variety of manual construction tasks involving roads, highways, and heavy construction projects under the direction of a crew foreman.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform manual labor tasks in heavy/highway construction projects
  • Set up, maintain, and clean work sites, including scaffolding, barricades, and equipment
  • Load, unload, and distribute materials, machinery, or tools
  • Place, move, and dismantle traffic management devices
  • Dig trenches, backfill excavations, and prepare trench bottoms
  • Use hand and power tools to level earth or asphalt
  • Set up or dismantle forms for concrete pouring
  • Operate pumps, compressors, generators, and other equipment
  • Signal equipment operators for movement and alignment
  • Measure and record site dimensions and openings
  • Maintain a clean work environment and perform safety checks
  • Follow safety protocols and promote safety awareness
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Operate various hand and power tools
  • Follow directions and improve skills continually
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
  • Understand basic road construction processes
  • Maintain a safety-first attitude and adhere to safety procedures
  • Work flexible hours, including nights and weekends if necessary
  • Have reliable transportation and ability to travel to worksites
Physical Demands:
  • Extended standing and physical effort
  • Walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and lifting (up to 75 lbs or more)
  • Operate tools and equipment requiring manual dexterity
  • Good vision and coordination
Education / Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED
  • At least 1 year of general labor experience or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license
Work Environment:

Work outdoors in various weather conditions, near heavy machinery, and exposed to substances like oil, grease, concrete, fumes, and dust. Noise levels are moderate to loud.
