Job summary

VNA Health Group in New Jersey seeks a full-time WIC Program Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to provide peer support, education, and encouragement to mothers enrolled in the WIC program to help them initiate and sustain breastfeeding.

The role collaborates with WIC staff, including lactation consultants and nutritionists, to deliver evidence-based breastfeeding education and promote healthy infant feeding. This grant-funded position requires compliance with program policies and timely follow-up.

Qualifications

• NJ state breastfeeding peer counselor training program (required after hire)
• Past or present personal breastfeeding experience (required)
• Bilingual English and Spanish required
• Valid driver’s license and auto insurance
• Strong communication and rapport-building skills
• Ability to manage a caseload and follow up regularly

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one breastfeeding support to WIC participants via phone, in person, or virtual platforms.
• Educate on breastfeeding techniques, latch, milk supply, and pumping.
• Address common breastfeeding challenges and support mothers returning to work or school.
• Collaborate with WIC staff, nutritionists, and lactation consultants.
• Lead outreach activities and provide breast­feeding education materials.
• Maintain confidentiality and document interactions per WIC regulations.
