Operates ultrasound scanning equipment to produce records of designated portions of the human anatomy for patients of all ages, including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Duties include performing high-quality diagnostic non-invasive vascular examinations related to disorders affecting the vascular system, providing accurate medical descriptions, preliminary interpretations (verbal and written) for physician review, and maintaining ultrasound equipment.

Requirements for Ultrasound Technologists

1. Certification:

• Certified or eligible for certification by:

American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), (VS)

OR

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Sonography (ARRT) (S) (VS)

OR

Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)

• All sonographers must obtain certification within one year of hire or cross-training.
• Certified in Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or obtain within 90 days of employment.

Continuing Education: Sonographers must comply with ARDMS, ARRT, or CCI requirements for ongoing education relevant to their practice.

Requirements for Sonographer or Mammography Technologist - Breast Ultrasound

• ARDMS certification and current registration, or
• ARRT post-primary certification and current registration in breast sonography, or
• ARRT certification and current registration and MQSA qualification.

Additional requirements include:

• 5 CEUs specific to breast ultrasound.
• Certified in Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or obtain within 90 days of employment.
• Regularly perform breast ultrasound exams.
• Registered Technologists must meet CE requirements of their certifying organization for their imaging modality, including credits relevant to their ACR-accredited clinical practice.
