Maine Medical Partners is seeking a solid tumor oncologist with an interest in breast cancer to join the faculty of its flagship cancer center in Portland, Maine.
Highlights of this opportunity include:
- Part of a statewide oncology care program - the MaineHealth Cancer Care Network (MHCCN) is an integrated cancer care delivery network across the Southern, Coastal, and Mountain regions of Maine and eastern New Hampshire. It is designed to provide care as close to home as possible, comprising 11 hospital partners and serving more than 7,400 cancer patients annually, including over 600 cases at the Scarborough Breast Care Center.
- MHCCN is the leading cancer care provider in Maine with accreditation from COC, NAPBC, and NAPRC for comprehensive cancer care programs.
- Provides fully integrated services including surgical oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care, patient support/social work, and nutrition services.
- Robust research program through membership of the NCI's Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP), with opportunities to serve as PI or sub-PI in clinical trials and support investigator-initiated research.
- Features 19 dedicated tumor board meetings monthly covering multiple cancer types such as brain, head and neck, breast, lung, GI/GU, rectal, liver, melanoma, sarcoma, neuro-oncology, and hematologic malignancies.
- Utilizes advanced analytics and metrics, including membership in ASCO CancerLinQ, with an EPIC EMR system integrated with BEACON and ClinicalPath platforms.
- Faculty position affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine, with participation in MaineHealth's Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program and Maine Track Undergraduate Medical Education in Portland.
The Oncology/Hematology Practice - MaineHealth Cancer Care at South Portland:
- Flagship cancer center of MHCCN, functioning as a hybrid academic-community subspecialized hematology-oncology practice with 11 physicians and 5 APPs.
- Offers full infusion services, including conventional chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and oral chemotherapy dispensary.
- Inpatient care is provided at Maine Medical Center (MMC), Maine's leading tertiary care hospital with 637 beds, a Level I Trauma Center, and affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine.
- One week out of every 10, with weekly calls, involves rounding only at one hospital during the call week, supported by hospitalists and house-staff.
- Designated inpatient oncology floor capable of inpatient chemotherapy.
- This is a full-time role, typically four outpatient clinic days per week, plus one administrative day, with potential protected academic time for qualified candidates.
Desired Qualifications & Experience:
- Sub-specialty expertise in breast malignancies is preferred, with familiarity across the spectrum of oncologic disorders.
- Medical degree from an accredited institution.
- Successful completion of residency and fellowship at an accredited program.
- Board certification or eligibility in hematology or hematology and oncology.
- Recent graduates and early-career physicians are encouraged to apply, as strong mentorship is available.
