Job summary

The Associated Press seeks a versatile reporter to join its national Rapid Response Team based in Honolulu, Hawaii. You will cover major breaking stories, develop sources, and deliver fast, authoritative reporting for AP’s global audience.

You will move between fast reporting, live coverage and deeper enterprise reporting, collaborating across text, photo and video to produce distinctive journalism that resonates beyond Hawaii.

Qualifications

• At least two years of full-time journalism experience at a daily newspaper, broadcast or digital newsroom, news agency or equivalent news organization.
• Strong reporting, interviewing and writing skills, including the ability to develop sources quickly.
• Experience finding and verifying user-generated content, including OSINT and digital verification techniques.

Responsibilities

• Cover major breaking news stories, moving quickly to establish what happened and what matters as events develop.
• Build sourcing with officials, first responders, community leaders and others to identify significant developments.
• Write quickly, clearly and accurately on deadline and contribute across formats when news demands it.
