Job summary

The Salvation Army in Missouri is seeking a part-time music program coordinator to work with corps and community. You will plan and implement music programs for children and adults, lead lessons, and help organize concerts and recitals that reflect the mission.

Ideal candidates will have a bachelor's degree in music or extensive teaching experience, with strong leadership and collaborative skills to engage participants and the broader community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in music or equivalent teaching experience.
• Minimum of two years' music teaching experience with children and adults.
• Performance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead music and arts programs; plan weekly lessons and implement curriculum.
• Collaborate with corps leadership; plan/attend recitals and prepare programs for year-end concert.
• Encourage participants to develop skills and self-esteem through music.
• Organize performances and community events to raise awareness of the mission.
• Encourage attendance at summer camps and help plan participation.

Job description

Job Objective:

Work with children and adults in the corps and community to plan and implement a music program whichwill include teaching theory, performance skills,music,and values.

Essential Functions:

• Work within the corpsto lead music and other arts programs as assigned. Responsible for lesson planning for music classes each week and implementing theappropriate curriculumin the program.
• Workwithcorpsleadership,planand attend all therecitals at thecorpsandprepthecorpsmusic programs toparticipatein theconcert at the end of each school year.
• Encourage participants to work towards a goal and sense of accomplishment in developing musical abilities. Encourage participants to discover and develop skills and talents that will heighten their self-esteem, increase school/program pride, and involve them in positive activities.
• Help organize musical performances and community activities that increase public understanding of the mission of the corps in the community.
• Encourage participants to attend summer camps which will lead them to develop further talents and make spiritual decisions. Be available to help plan the participation of campers in the summer camping programs. This includes the divisional music camp as well as any summer music daycamps.
• All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor'sdegree in music preferred, or extensive experience teaching music.

Experience: Aminimum of two years’ music experience working with children/adults.Performanceexperience is preferred.

Skills/Abilities:

• Demonstratedproficiencyin music theory and in a primary instrument.
• Personal knowledge of music, including performance, education, and theory.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills.
• Must be a team player,self-starter, and follow through with assignments until completion.
• A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
• A strong commitment to support and promote the mission ofThe Salvation Army.

Thispositionisrequiredto do light physical workperiodicallyin order tosuccessfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employeeis regularly required touse instruments and equipment needed in a music program. Driving:

Employee mustpossessa valid driver's license from the state in which youreside.Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

The work environment for this position includes aprogramenvironment with moderate to high noise level.
