Job summary

The Salvation Army seeks a part-time music program coordinator to work with children and adults, planning weekly lessons and implementing a suitable curriculum. The role includes leading recitals, supporting end-of-year concerts, and promoting positive activities in the community.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s degree in music or equivalent teaching experience, plus at least two years of music work with diverse age groups and some performance experience. Part-time hours apply.

Job description

Job Objective:Work with children and adults in the corps and community to plan and implement a music program whichwill include teaching theory, performance skills,music,and values.

Essential Functions:

• Work within the corpsto lead music and other arts programs as assigned. Responsible for lesson planning for music classes each week and implementing theappropriate curriculumin the program.
• Workwithcorpsleadership,planand attend all therecitals at thecorpsandprepthecorpsmusic programs toparticipatein theconcert at the end of each school year.
• Encourage participants to work towards a goal and sense of accomplishment in developing musical abilities. Encourage participants to discover and develop skills and talents that will heighten their self-esteem, increase school/program pride, and involve them in positive activities.
• Help organize musical performances and community activities that increase public understanding of the mission of the corps in the community.
• Encourage participants to attend summer camps which will lead them to develop further talents and make spiritual decisions. Be available to help plan the participation of campers in the summer camping programs. This includes the divisional music camp as well as any summer music daycamps.
• All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:Bachelor'sdegree in music preferred, or extensive experience teaching music.

Experience:Aminimum of two years’ music experience working with children/adults.Performanceexperience is preferred.

Skills/Abilities:

• Demonstratedproficiencyin music theory and in a primary instrument.
• Personal knowledge of music, including performance, education, and theory.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills.

Physical Requirements:Thispositionisrequiredto do light physical workperiodicallyin order tosuccessfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employeeis regularly required touse instruments and equipment needed in a music program. Driving:Employee mustpossessa valid driver's license from the state in which youreside.Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.
