Job summary

Fort Bend County Library seeks a Librarian III to lead daily unit operations, supervise staff, and manage collections and budgets. You will support patrons with research, coordinate tours and programs, and participate in professional meetings.

This role emphasizes service quality, training, and use of bibliographic databases. The position requires MLS, 3 years post-MLS experience with at least 1 year in supervision, strong communication, and computer skills.

Qualifications

• MLS in Library Science from an ALA-accredited school.
• 3 years post-MLS experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory/managerial role.
• Strong computer skills and familiarity with library technologies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to work with the public and officials.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operation of the unit, including staffing, scheduling, and supervision.
• Recommend staff hires, transfers, promotions, discipline, and terminations.
• Maintain unit budget and track expenditures; prepare reports.
• Develop and manage collections; place orders and weed outdated materials.
• Assist patrons with research and materials selection; respond to complex inquiries.
• Plan tours and programs for adults and children; participate in meetings.
• Provide guidance on bibliographic and computer-assisted services.
