Job summary

Fort Bend County is seeking a Librarian III to manage day-to-day unit operations, supervise staff, oversee budgeting, and lead collection development in a community library setting near Houston, TX. The role involves staff training, reporting, and patron assistance for information needs.

Minimum qualifications include an MLS from an ALA-accredited program and at least 3 years of post-MLS experience, with one year in management.

Qualifications

• MLS from an American Library Association-accredited program.
• 3 years post-MLS experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
• Strong verbal and written communication; supervisory and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operation of the unit; report building and grounds issues; perform inventory and equipment recommendations.
• Interview, train, schedule, supervise and review staff performance; hires and promotions decisions.
• Maintain statistical records and prepare reports; monitor unit budget and expenditures.
• Develop collections; select materials; process orders and weed outdated items.
• Plan programs and tours; engage with schools and community groups; participate in professional meetings.
