Job summary

The Department of Toxic Substances Control in California seeks a Branch Chief (SUPERVISING HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES ENGINEER II) to lead the Schools Evaluation and Brownfields Outreach Branch in Orange County. You will manage a high-functioning team and direct hazardous-substances evaluation and cleanup efforts.

The role is permanent/full-time with a hybrid work option and a salary range of $11,966.00 to $15,772.00 per month.

Qualifications

• Lead a team of engineers, geologists, and scientists responsible for evaluation and cleanup of hazardous-substance contaminated properties
• Ensure DTSC SMRP decisions are technically sound, innovative, and protective of public health and environment
• Provide staff with support, expertise, resources, and training for effective project decisions
• Identify resources to meet staff recruitment, development, and performance goals per the DTSC Strategic Plan
• Advise policy issues to Division Chiefs, Deputy Director, and Director; respond to Cal/EPA, Governor’s Office, Legislature, and stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise administrative staff and subordinate supervisory engineers, geologists, and scientists
• Ensure decisions are technically sound and aligned with DTSC goals
• Provide staff with resources and training for effective project decisions
• Identify and procure resources for recruitment, development, and performance measures
• Advise and consult on policy issues and respond to inquiries from Cal/EPA, Governor’s Office, and stakeholders
