Job summary

The University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor seeks a full-time Research Lab Technician for the Al-Holou lab to support brain cancer basic and translational research. You will contribute to general lab management and hands-on experiments.

Responsibilities include lab inspections, equipment maintenance, inventory and purchasing, safety compliance, tissue culture, data collection, weekly meetings, and training junior staff.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Neuroscience, Biology or related field strongly preferred.
• High school degree with 1 year of lab experience required.
• Experience in cell culture, PCR, protein measurement (ELISA/Western Blot), in vivo work, tissue processing.
• Experience in training others and ability to coordinate a small team.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities; initiative and self-motivation.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily lab inspections and maintain storage, waste disposal, and tissue culture area.
• Coordinate routine maintenance of lab equipment (pipette, thermal cycle, centrifuge, freezer, fridge, tissue culture hood).
• Routinely monitor inventory, organize and order supplies, and assist in financials.
• Ensure lab safety compliance with university/state/federal regulations; manage biosafety and material transfer agreements.
• Establish and maintain communication workflows; train lab members in techniques and procedures; schedule meetings.
• Attend weekly lab meetings; interpret and implement research methodology under PI supervision; read scientific articles.
• Read scientific articles to discuss with lab members.
• Support research projects, data collection, tissue culture, sample collection and processing, embedding, cutting, staining, and in vivo experiments.
• Maintain detailed records of experiments and data.
