Braille Quality Assurance Specialist

Reporting to the Director of Quality and Continuous Improvement, the Braille Quality Specialist will provide Braille Quality support to the organization.

$56,000.00/year – $70,000.00/year | Salary is negotiable depending on experience.

Essential Duties And Tasks

  • Support the Braille supervisor, team leader, transcribers, proofreaders, and other team members by answering questions and assisting with in-process inspections of Braille Products.
  • Inspect braille files and documents, report findings in SAP ERP
  • Monitor, inspect, and measure all processes that produce braille
  • Audit braille pre-production and production quality processes
  • Inspect the tooling that is generated by the new product development and ECR process.
  • Review tactile graphics to ensure they meet tactile graphic industry standards.
  • Inspect stock of existing products and materials when problems are found report findings in ERP system
  • Train production employees on basic braille using a braillewriter, as needed.
  • Inspect braille files and Digital Graphic files before masters are made, report findings to Transcriber and Illustrator for problems or corrections
  • Help guide transcribers and Illustrators throughout the process to align with the BANA guidelines.
  • Review tactile graphics to ensure they meet tactile graphic industry standards.
  • Inspect the final product for any errors before the final report is sent out
  • Inspect first article of test from the production floor

Minimum Qualifications – Experience – Training

  • High school diploma or GED, some college or vocational training preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, required.
  • Must be a motivated problem-solver and have the ability to work through tasks independently.
  • High level verbal and excellent written communications skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work with team members across departments.

A combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted when competency in the role is demonstrated. Reasonable accommodation may be provided for those who are able to perform the essential duties of the job.

Specialized Skills And Knowledge

  • Experience in transcribing braille required.
  • NLS literary certification in UEB required.
  • Must be able to read braille by sight or touch.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a business office setting within a facility with a production and distribution center.
