Job description

Job Purpose:

Responsible for overseeing all aspects of the boys varsity lacrosse program.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Plan and conduct daily practices to promote the development and improvement of players; preparing players for games and competitive play.
2. Educate athletes about college recruiting and placement process; support those who have the ability and interest to play in college.
3. Assist Admissions efforts by identifying and attracting qualified student athletes.
4. Provide leadership, support, and guidance for the entire program including other sports at all levels.
5. Select students that are best suited in skill, commitment, and performance for the expected level of play for your team.
6. Require athletes to represent the School in a respectful and dignified manner by teaching the importance of sportsmanship and hold them accountable for their behavior and attendance at all practices and games.
7. Utilize athletics to teach and reinforce the School mission statement and values.
8. Create an environment where the enjoyment of the sport is promoted.
9. Ensure the health and safety of players, coaches and spectators.
10. Engage with parents and cultivate a successful relationship.
11. Promote the school and the sport through articles, media coverage, the athletic website, etc. which includes emailing game summaries to “The Pomfret Sports Digest”, newspapers and/or league officers within 24 hours after all games.
12. Communicate noteworthy news and/or accomplishments to the Communications department.
13. Attend NEPSAC and League coaches meetings for Tennis.
14. Seek professional development opportunities through clinics, coaching associations, videos, or other coaches.
15. Adhere to all School policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
16. Continually meet or exceed Pomfret School’s Standards of Behavior, Character, and Engagement.
17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Collegiate player or high school coaching experience preferred.
2. Must travel to peer schools on game days (Wednesdays and Saturdays).
3. Possess a highly professional and ethical manner.

Work Conditions:

1. Requires substantial movement of entire body; running, jumping, playing tennis.
2. Visual acuity within normal parameters.
