Job summary

Choice Schools Associates' Creative Montessori Academy in Michigan is seeking a dedicated athletic coach to guide student athletes in game strategies, develop practice plans, and foster sportsmanship. You will coach and motivate athletes, schedule practices, assess players' skills, and work with the Athletic Director to coordinate facilities for practices and contests.

You’ll also monitor academics to keep student eligibility intact and uphold MHSAA rules.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience as a coach or assistant coach at middle or high school level preferred.
• Effective coaching techniques and skills.
• Knowledge of MHSAA rules, regulations, strategies and techniques.

Responsibilities

• Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
• Assesses players' skills and assigns team positions.
• Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time for individual and team development.
• Works with the Athletic Director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
• Coaches and instructs players on rules, equipment and techniques of the sport.
• Observes players during competition and practice to determine needs for improvement.
• Maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes.
• Monitors academic performance to ensure eligibility requirements are met.
• Follows procedures in case of an athlete's injury.
• Conferences with parents/guardians regarding athletic performance.
• Follows MHSAA and school regulations governing the athletic program.
• Models sportsmanlike conduct and appropriate behavior towards players, officials, and spectators.
• Maintains equipment, supplies and uniforms and follows proper care procedures.

What you'll do

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
• Assesses players' skills and assigns team positions.
• Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
• Works with the Athletic Director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
• Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment and techniques of the sport.
• Observes players, during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.
• Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.
• Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury.
• Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.
• Follows MHSAA, and school regulations governing the athletic program.
• Models sportsman-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
• Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance and requisitioning of equipment, supplies and uniforms.
• Models non discriminatory practices in all activities.
• Carries out other duties assigned by the school leader.

Qualifications
