Job summary

Wilmington Public Schools' Wilmington High School in Wilmington, Massachusetts is seeking a part-time Boys Freshman Basketball Coach to lead the program with integrity. The role requires commitment to sportsmanship, safety, and adherence to district and MIAA policies.

Responsibilities include developing practice plans, supervising athletes at home and away contests, coordinating with the Athletic Director, and ensuring compliance with safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• Experience playing and/or coaching; experience working with adolescents.
• Current CPR, First Aid Certification.
• Completion of the MIAA Coaches Education Class and other requirements by the MIAA.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required

• Model the behaviors outlined in the NFHS Coaches Code of Ethics, especially those pertaining to sportsmanship.
• Have full control of the team in all matters pertaining to coaching and athletic discipline.
• Implement WHS Athletic Department policies and team rules.
• Be responsible for information contained in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Handbook and the WHS Athletic Guide.
• Stay informed of rule changes, trends, and recommendations that affect their particular sport.
• Be present at each practice session and at all contests of the sport coached.
• Develop an organized written practice plan to include adequate warm-up and cool-down procedures on a daily basis.
• Make sure that the facilities and equipment are safe and that safety procedures are taught and followed in all areas.
• Perform all duties/responsibilities assigned by the Director of Athletics
• Implement game plans and game management.
• Process the medical forms, parent consent forms and eligibility reports
• Work with community members who are involved in youth sports
• Directly supervise squad members at home and away contests.
• Supervise all team members that are transported by school buses.

• ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  All coaches are directly responsible to the Director of Athletics. The coach of each individual sport shall recognize that any activity sponsored by WHS Athletics is an integral component of the overall educational program offered by WHS. Accordingly, individuals responsible for such activities shall conduct their programs in a manner consistent with sound educational principles and established program goals to ensure that athletics serve as a meaningful and constructive part of the school’s total educational experience.
