SUMMARY
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in assigned sport(s). Contribute to the education program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI)
- Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
- Current AED and CPR certification
- Clear and valid Texas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Assist the Head Volleyball coach with directing and supervising the volleyball program within UIL rules and regulations.
- Assist with on-court coaching during practice and competition.
- Knowledge of core academic subjects, coaching techniques, curriculum, and UIL rules.
- Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes and manage their behavior.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Experience:
- Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
- 2 years of high school/college volleyball coaching
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with district curriculum, accommodating individual differences.
- Use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and technology based on student needs.
- Assess student learning styles and adapt instruction accordingly.
- Collaborate with special education staff to modify curricula per IEPs.
- Coordinate with staff to set instructional goals and methods.
- Manage instructional aides and volunteers effectively.
- Utilize diverse instructional techniques to enhance athletic skills.
- Assist in managing athletic activities and promote sportsmanship.
- Work with staff to support the overall development of student athletes.
Program Management
- Set performance criteria for athletic abilities and model required movements.
- Ensure safety and proper use of facilities and equipment.
- Coordinate travel for competitions, including bus transportation (optional).
- Ensure compliance with UIL rules.
- Participate in program evaluation and improvement.
Student Growth and Development
- Assess and support student achievement and provide interventions as needed.
- Supervise extracurricular activities and serve as a positive role model.
Student Management
- Supervise students during competitions and trips.
- Instruct on NCAA regulations regarding scholarships and recruiting.
- Enforce discipline and promote sportsmanship.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create a conducive learning environment.
- Manage student behavior and ensure safety.
- Assist with instructional materials and record-keeping.
Communication
Maintain professional relationships and open communication with all stakeholders.
