Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Load, unload, and secure merchandise using liftgates, ramps, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
• Ensure cargo is secured and weight distributed to prevent shifting.
• Provide courteous customer service to donors, customers, and community members.
• Support donation drives and warehouse operations when transportation needs are light.
• Follow safety, fleet management, and loss prevention procedures.

Job Summary

Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Box Truck Driver to transport donated goods, merchandise, and materials between retail stores, donation centers, warehouses, and other Goodwill locations.

This role combines commercial driving, loading and unloading, vehicle inspections, and customer service. The ideal candidate has a strong safety record, enjoys hands-on work, and is comfortable operating a box truck while supporting Goodwill's mission through efficient transportation and logistics services.

What You'll Do

• Safely operate a box truck to transport donated goods, merchandise, and materials between Goodwill locations
• Complete and document pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections in accordance with company and DOT requirements
• Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, and transportation records
• Load, unload, and secure merchandise, furniture, and donated goods using liftgates, ramps, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and safe lifting techniques
• Ensure cargo is properly secured and weight is distributed appropriately to prevent damage or shifting during transport
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and monitor fluid levels, tires, and overall vehicle condition
• Perform minor vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting, such as replacing wiper blades and identifying routine maintenance needs
• Support donation drives, donation bin clean-outs, and special collections as assigned
• Provide courteous and professional customer service when interacting with donors, customers, and community members
• Assist with warehouse, sorting, and operational support duties when transportation needs are light
• Follow all company safety, fleet management, and loss prevention procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum one year of commercial driving experience required
• Experience operating a box truck, straight truck, delivery vehicle, or similar equipment preferred
• Experience in logistics, warehouse operations, moving services, or retail transportation is a plus

Licenses & Certifications

• Valid and unrestricted Maryland Class C Driver's License (non-CDL) required
• Minimum age of 21 years
• Current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate required when applicable
• Acceptable driving record in accordance with company insurance and fleet safety requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to safely operate a non-CDL box truck up to 26,000 lbs. GVWR
• Experience using liftgates, pallet jacks, ramps, and hand trucks
• Knowledge of load securement and cargo safety practices
• Ability to back, maneuver, and park a box truck in loading docks, tight delivery locations, and retail environments
• Strong attention to safety and vehicle care
• Ability to work independently and manage route schedules effectively
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to lift, move, and transport heavy merchandise safely
