POSITION SUMMARY
The Box Truck Driver safely operates a non-CDL box truck to pick up and deliver product between warehouses and other locations as directed. The Box Truck Driver also supports the receiving function by unloading, inspecting, and checking in inbound shipments. This role serves the warehouse and operations teams by keeping deliveries on schedule and inbound freight processed accurately and on time. Success is measured by safe driving performance, delivery reliability, and receiving accuracy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Safely operate a CDL box truck ( semi 53ft trailer, medium size ) to pick up and deliver freight, materials, or product between the warehouse, vendors, job sites, and customer locations.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; report mechanical issues, damage, or safety concerns to the shop or supervisor immediately.
- Load and secure freight using proper dunnage, straps, and blocking to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
- Plan efficient delivery routes and communicate delays or route changes to dispatch or the supervisor.
- Complete delivery paperwork, mileage, and driver logs accurately.
- Receive inbound shipments; verify piece counts, weights, and condition against packing slips, purchase orders, and bills of lading.
- Inspect incoming freight for damage or shortages and document discrepancies per company procedure.
- Unload trucks and trailers using a hand truck, pallet jack, or forklift.
- Scan, label, and enter receiving transactions into the warehouse management/inventory system, and stage or put away received materials in designated locations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe loading dock, receiving area, and truck cab, and comply with all DOT/FMCSA and company safety regulations.
- Support other warehouse functions as needed, including cycle counts, order pulling, and shipping, during downtime between routes.
- Assist with year-end or periodic cycle physical inventory counts
- Provide backup coverage for shipping or order-pulling during peak periods
- Perform basic housekeeping in shared warehouse areas outside the receiving dock
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 1+ year of commercial/box truck driving experience; warehouse receiving experience preferred
- Forklift certification preferred (or must be obtained within 30 days of hire
- Insurable MVR Required
- Safe, defensive driving skills and working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations
- Ability to read maps/GPS and plan efficient delivery routes
- Strong attention to detail for accurate freight counts, receiving documentation, and inventory records
- Basic math skills for verifying quantities, weights, and completing logs
- Ability to safely operate a hand truck, pallet jack, and (if certified) a forklift
- Basic computer and handheld-scanner skills for warehouse/inventory systems
- Clear communication with dispatch, customers, vendors, and the warehouse team
- Reliable and punctual, with a strong safety mindset and the ability to work independently on the road and as part of a team in the warehouse
Monday - Friday; 5:00am-2:00pm with flexibility to work overtime and/or weekends as required.
