Job summary

BCNC is seeking a Boston Pre‑K Assistant Teacher to join the Acorn Center for Early Education and Care. You will work with a professional team to provide high-quality care for children from 15 months to 5 years, reporting to the Director.

You will help with planning, classroom management, and daily activities while upholding licensing and accreditation standards. This role emphasizes inclusive, supportive education for families and children.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, or willingness to pursue one.
• First Aid and CPR certification within 6 months of employment.
• EEC Preschool or Infant-Toddler Certifications preferred.
• Experience with preschool-age children.
• Strong interest and aptitude for caring for young children.
• Ability to build strong relationships with adults, children, and families.
• Proficiency in Cantonese or Mandarin is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide care and supervision for children under the guidance of a classroom teacher.
• Maintain classroom materials, supplies, and space to ensure a clean, organized environment.
• Maintain a friendly, professional, and respectful tone in interactions with parents.
• Assist in curriculum planning and implementation; promptly communicate concerns to the teacher.
• Adhere to EEC, NAEYC, and BCNC guidelines and policies.
• Demonstrate professionalism with regular attendance and punctuality.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

What You Will Do

The Boston Pre‑K Assistant Teacher is a member of the BCNC Acorn Center for Early Education and Care team. The state licensed and nationally accredited child care center supports the growth and learning for children from 15 months to 5 years. You will work collaboratively with a team of professional teachers to strengthen children and families by providing high‑quality education and care so parents can work or further their education. You will report directly to the Director of Acorn Early Education and Care.

In This Role, You Will

• Provide care and supervision for children under the guidance of a classroom teacher
• Maintain classroom materials, supplies, and overall space to ensure a clean and organized environment
• Maintain a friendly, professional, and respectful tone in interactions with parents
• Assist in curriculum planning and implementation; promptly communicate any concerns, observations, or challenging situations to the classroom teacher for support and guidance
• Adhere to all regulations, policies, and procedures set forth by the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC), National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), as well as state, local, and BCNC guidelines
• Demonstrate professionalism by adhering to staff ethics, maintaining regular attendance, and being punctual
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

What We Look For

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Require an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or a related field, or be willing to pursue one
• Must be certified in First Aid and CPR within 6 months of employment
• Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) Preschool or Infant‑Toddler Certifications are preferred
• Experience working with preschool‑age children
• Demonstrate strong interest and aptitude for the care of young children
• Proficient in building strong relationships with individuals of all ages, including adults, children, and families
• Professional working proficiency in Cantonese or Mandarin Chinese is a plus

Working Conditions

• Must be available to work a flexible schedule and may require local travel during the workday
• This position involves performing essential job functions in typical work environments, including but not limited to offices, classrooms, or community settings. Duties may require routine movement such as walking, standing, and bending. Depending on the role, responsibilities may also include the ability to move items weighing up to 25‑50 pounds, and the use of computer equipment and effective communication.
