The Operator I, II, or III at Congruex will operate heavy machinery for construction or excavation projects in a safe manner, avoiding utilities and obstacles. Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required and valid driver’s license.
  • At least 1 year locating underground utilities with appropriate equipment.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment near active utilities.
  • Familiarity with location systems and plan review.
  • Ability to operate asphalt roller, skid steer, backhoe, mini excavator, vacuum truck, bore machine, and other heavy equipment.
  • CDL with tanker endorsement or willingness to obtain.
  • DOT Medical Card required; OSHA/ANSI safety standards knowledge.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with plans and specs.
  • Experience with basic shoring methods and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment per Safety policies and procedures.
  • Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers.
  • Maintain and document equipment condition; communicate with managers daily.
  • Load, haul, and position machinery; set up and break down safely.
  • Operate near active utilities while avoiding strikes.
  • Use and understand shoring, rigging, and related systems.
  • Assist with related tasks such as conduit placement, trench work, and concrete/asphalt tasks as needed.
  • Follow all safety rules and policies; coordinate with supervision for job details.

Job Title: Operator I, II, III

Reports To: Construction Manager

Employment Status: Hourly (Non-exempt)

We will determine salary based on skills and experience in relation to the function of the role, as well as equity to any other employees in the same or similar role.

Job Summary

The Operator will operate heavy machinery for construction or excavation projects in a safe manner, avoiding utilities and other obstacles.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy equipment in compliance with the company's operating safety policies and procedures.
  • Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers.
  • Responsible for regular maintenance and care of the assigned heavy equipment, produce any documentation needed for each job, daily communication with managers is a must.
  • Loads and hauls the machine.
  • Drives, sets up, and breaks down safely and efficiently.
  • Operates heavy equipment near active utilities.
  • Have knowledge of shoring systems and how to use them
  • Rigging and setting of structures
  • Along with operating must be willing to assist in other activities such as but not limited to
  • Placement of conduit in open trenches
  • Proofing conduits
  • Potholing existing utilities
  • Forming and pouring of concrete
  • Placement of asphalt
  • Avoids any marked utilities and implements all precautions to prevent utility strikes.
  • Communicates with supervisors for job details.
  • Before the equipment is utilized, walks path to ensure all utilities have been located and develops a plan for going above or below each utility or obstacle in the path.
  • Inspects and maintains job equipment.
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures, standards, and safety rules.
  • May be required to work additional hours and/or weekends, as needed, to meet deadlines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 1-year prior experience using the locating equipment to find any underground utilities.
  • Must have experience operating heavy equipment near active utilities.
  • Must be familiar with location systems.
  • Ability to operate an asphalt roller, skid steer, backhoe, mini excavator, vacuum truck, bore machine, and other heavy equipment.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Possession of a commercial driver's license (CDL) with tanker endorsement or a willingness to obtain the license.
  • DOT Medical Card.
  • Experience with Ditch Witch and Vermeer is preferred.
  • Must be able to operate the equipment safely.
  • Read and understand plans and specifications.
  • Must follow all OSHA, ANSI standards, as well as company rules & regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Experience and knowledge of basic shoring methods
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able and willing to work outdoors, subject to inclement weather conditions
  • Must be able to maintain visual and audible contact with other crewman and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement
  • Must be able to work around heavy equipment and machinery
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit or be in other physically demanding positions for long periods of time
  • Must be able to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and any applicable safety gear
