Position: Bore Machine Operator

Classification: Full-Time

Location: Harlingen, Texas

Pay Rate: Hourly

Reports To: Construction Supervisor

Job Description

This role involves setting up and operating boring machines to bore, drill, tap, spot face, groove, mill, or ream metal workpieces according to specifications, tooling instructions, and standard charts. The position requires knowledge of boring procedures and machining methods, heavy labor such as digging and lifting, working on ladders, teamwork, and outdoor work in various weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Experience with trenchers or other construction equipment is a plus.

Essential Job Functions

1. Dig trenches and operate heavy construction equipment (e.g., Ditch Witch & Vermeer Directional Operators).
2. Transport drilling equipment to construction sites.
3. Set up drilling and hoisting machinery, connect drill pipe sections.
4. Run underground facility location equipment.
5. Operate various drill sizes and brands to locate cables and drill heads.
6. Connect power cables or hoses for water or air supply.
7. Operate drilling machinery, regulating pressure, speed, and air flows.
8. Operate slush pumps to circulate drilling fluid/mud.
9. Address problems in drilled holes caused by mechanical breakdowns or natural conditions.
10. Locate and recover lost or broken bits, casings, drill pipes using special tools.
11. Maintain records of footage drilled, materials, and tools used.
12. Report drilling process information to the supervisor.
13. Enforce safety guidelines and follow weekly safety topics.

Education & Licenses/Certificates

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.

Skills & Physical Demands

• Ability to work at heights.
• Manual dexterity and ability to use hand tools and test equipment.
• Ability to drive trucks or vans, including those with aerial lifts.
• Lift up to 50 pounds.
• Use computers and smartphones to read and update prints.
• Physical ability to kneel, crawl, push, pull, bend, stoop, lift, and dig.
