Job summary

VTF Excavation, LLC is seeking motivated Bore Machine Operators to join our team in Northwest/Central Ohio and Northeast Indiana. You will operate directional bore machines and related drilling equipment for waterline and sanitary projects, while performing labor tasks to support timely, safe installations.

The role requires the ability to read plans, handle PVC/HDPE pipes, and work with the crew to maintain safe, efficient sites.

Qualifications

• Directional bore machine operator experience preferred.
• Ability to operate drill in various soils with drilling fluid knowledge.
• Experience in waterline or sanitary force main installation preferred.
• Understand construction plans, blueprints and grade stakes.
• Must be able to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical labor daily.

Responsibilities

• Operate directional bore machines and drilling equipment on waterline projects.
• Assist with pipe fusing, underground utilities, hydro excavation and digging.
• Handle PVC and HDPE pipe.
• Perform general labor and material handling.
• Operate excavators, skid loaders and other machinery as needed.
• Read blueprints and layouts; ensure safety around utilities.
• Maintain clean, organized job sites and follow OSHA standards.
• Assist with crew leadership and supervision when required.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Bore Machine Operator is responsible for operating directional bore machines and other heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner while supporting underground utility installation projects. This position combines equipment operation with hands-on construction labor and plays a critical role in completing projects safely, accurately, and on schedule.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operate directional bore machines and associated drilling equipment on waterline and sanitary force main projects

Assist with pipe fusing, underground utility installation, hydro excavation, and excavation activities

Handle various types of PVC and HDPE pipe

Perform general labor duties including lifting, shoveling, hand tool operation, and material handling

Operate heavy equipment including excavators, skid loaders, and other machinery as needed

Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and utility layouts

Work safely around existing underground utilities and jobsite hazards

Maintain clean and organized job sites

Follow all OSHA and company safety standards

Assist with crew leadership and supervision when needed

QUALIFICATIONS

Directional bore machine operator experience highly preferred

Ability to operate drill in various types of soils with an understanding of drilling fluid mixes

Experience in waterline and sanitary force main installation preferred

Basic understanding of construction plans, blueprints, and grade stakes

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

Ability to work effectively as part of a team and lead crews when necessary

Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical labor daily

CDL highly preferred

Must obtain CDL within six (6) months of hire date if not currently licensed

VTF has in house CDL program to assist

Valid driver's license required
