Job summary

Customs and Border Protection is hiring Customs and Border Protection Officers (CBPO) in multiple U.S. locations. The role is full-time and offers competitive base pay with federal benefits and possible overtime compensation.

The position spans entry and mid-level grades (GS-5/GS-7/GS-9) with promotion potential to higher grades, alongside a Thrift Savings Plan, health and retirement benefits. Selected candidates may receive incentives and must meet citizenship, residency, and training

Qualifications

• GS-5 requires 3 years general experience, or a bachelor’s degree, or a combination of experience and education.
• GS-7 requires 1 year specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, plus knowledge of inspections and regulatory compliance.
• GS-9 requires 1 year specialized experience and additional education or equivalent combination; different pathways exist to qualify.

Responsibilities

• Enforce customs, immigration, and related laws and regulations.
• Inspect persons and conveyances to determine admissibility.
• Control and supervise the flow of legitimate travel and trade.
• Prevent illegal entry and contraband by applying procedures at entry points.
• Duties include making arrests, seizures, and enforcing enforcement actions as needed.

Education

Bachelor's degree or 4-year course leading to a bachelor's degree

Graduate level education (master's or professional degree)
