Qualifications

• Minimum one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level.
• Detaining suspected violators of federal, state, or local laws.
• Enforcing laws related to importing, exporting, or international shipping of goods.
• Using intelligence techniques and risk assessments for violations of laws and national-security threats.
• Graduate-level education may substitute for experience (master’s or higher, LL.B./J.D.).
• Citizenship: U.S. Citizen.
• Residency: primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
• Age: referred before 40th birthday unless exemptions.
• Veterans’ Preference eligible.

Responsibilities

• Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations.
• Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel.
• Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances.
• Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States.
• Preventing illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband.
