Job summary

Customs and Border Protection is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPA) in the United States. This federal role offers base pay at multiple grade levels (GL-5 to GS-12), strong benefits, leave, and a Thrift Savings Plan. Incentives include recruitment up to $20,000 and potential retention of up to $30,000 over three years.

Training at the Border Patrol Academy is provided. Qualified candidates may receive a direct hire pathway and must meet citizenship, residency, and age requirements.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating leadership, decision-making and composure in stressful situations, or
• A bachelor’s degree or successful completion of a full four-year program from an accredited college or university; OR
• A combination of general work experience and college education submitted with your application.

Responsibilities

• Detect and question individuals suspected of immigration and customs violations and inspect documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using surveillance and night-vision scopes.
• Interpreting tracks, marks, and other evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Perform farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks.
• Patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways using various government assets.
