Job description

Recruitment Incentive

Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents (as defined in 5 CFR 575.102) will be offered a $20,000 incentive. The first $10,000 will be paid upon successfully completing the academy, and the remaining $10,000 will be paid after completing a three-year service agreement. Agents accepting a prioritized location will be eligible for an additional $10,000, totaling $30,000. Qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

You qualify for the GL-5 grade level if you possess one of the following:
  1. Experience: One year of general experience demonstrating the ability to take charge, make sound decisions, maintain composure in stressful situations, learn regulations and techniques, and gather concise information through questioning, observation, and examination of documents and records. This experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
  2. Education Substitution: A bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in any field from an accredited college or university.
  3. Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of the above experience and college education, calculated using your resume and transcripts.
You qualify for the GL-7 grade level if you possess one of the following:
  1. Experience: One year of specialized experience in law enforcement or responsible work demonstrating skills such as making judgments with firearms, dealing courteously with the public, analyzing information rapidly, and making prompt decisions. This experience should align with the Border Patrol Individual Occupational Requirement.
  2. Education Substitution: A bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement based on class standing, GPA of 3.0 or higher, or honor society membership. Alternatively, one year of graduate-level education in a related field or one year of law school from an accredited institution.
  3. Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of specialized experience and graduate-level education in a related field, as documented in your application materials.

National Service Experience: Includes volunteer work through programs like Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, and other organizations. Volunteer experience can be credited if duties, roles, and responsibilities are described in detail.

Language Proficiency: Ability to speak and read Spanish and English is required. Training will be provided at the academy.
