Amentum is seeking a Facilities Painter to join our Facilities Maintenance team in Des Moines, IA. Typical hours are Monday-Friday with overtime possible based on demand. The role covers industrial coating of racks, fixtures, cabinets, and tooling, plus interior facility painting when volumes dip.

Amentum is seeking a Facilities Painter to join our Facilities Maintenance team in Des Moines, IA.
Typical hours: Monday-Friday; overtime and hours may vary based on customer demand.
This position will primarily perform industrial coating and finishing on racks, fixtures, cabinets, tooling, and related production assets. When production paint volume is low, the painter will transition to facility painting activities such as walls, columns, ceilings, and other designated surface.
Prep, clean, mask, and finish racks, fixtures, cabinets, tooling, and similar items.
Interior prepping and painting of office spaces, hallways, restrooms, closets, meeting rooms, floors, tour paths, equipment rooms, etc.
Operate and maintain spray equipment, including paint guns, booths, filters, and air systems.
Ensure proper mil thickness, adhesion, curing, and finish quality on every work order.
Perform surface preparation including sanding, grinding, wire‑brushing, and solvent cleaning.
Follow paint specifications and approved materials consistent with plant standards.
Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area within the paint booth at all times.
Maintain and clean all assigned tools, paint guns, hoses, equipment, and safety devices
May require some dry wall patching and mudding, and some wallpapering or patching.
Must be meticulous and produce high quality work.
Performing surface prep including patching, sanding, priming, masking, and cleaning.
Using rollers, brushes, or spray equipment appropriate for each surface
Other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
4 years of experience as a Residential or Commercial Painter.
Experience repairing drywall.
Experience operating and working from various man-lifts and ladders.
Experience hanging and patching wallpaper.
Experience taping off trim.
Experience at trimming out a room.
Qualified applicants offered a position must be able to obtain site specific security access including all applicable background checks.
Qualified applicants must pass a medical evaluation for respirator use and be able to successfully complete a fit test for each type of respirator needed for the position or for an approved alternate respirator that provides equal or better protection from identified hazards.

Requires a valid Driver’s License.

Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.
Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.
Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.
Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.
Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.
Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.
Wear steel toe/Metatarsal safety footwear, safety glasses, gloves, bump/hard hats, and other Personal Protective Equipment as required.
