The role requires reporting on government, elections, education, business, and community growth, with a mix of briefs and longer features, plus multimedia storytelling and data-informed coverage.

Qualifications

• Experience in hard-news reporting on local government, education, or community beats.
• Clear, accurate reporting and strong interviewing skills.
• Ability to translate complex policy issues into accessible stories.
• Strong organizational skills to juggle meetings and deadlines.
• Willingness to learn Boone County communities quickly.
• Comfort in a fast-paced digital newsroom and cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Report and write clear, accurate, timely stories on Boone County government and community issues.
• Attend and cover public meetings, including evenings.
• Break news on policy changes, major votes, and developments affecting residents.
• Cultivate sources and build relationships with officials, educators, business leaders, and civic groups.
• Identify enterprise and accountability stories about county growth, budgets, education trends, and infrastructure.
• Cover community features—profiles, events, neighborhood stories, human-interest pieces.
• Contribute to multimedia storytelling with video, audio, social content, and visuals with the digital team.
• Use audience analytics to inform coverage and engagement.
• Collaborate with editors and reporters for NKY regional coverage.
